ABOUT ME
Inger Elise Hansen, Artist based in Oslo, Norway

Why do I paint?
There are moments in life and throughout the day that are special. Moments of beauty, moments of wisdom and reflection. Moments of joy and happiness, but also moments of anxiety, sadness, and anger. Nature possesses a unique beauty and mysticism, with colors, lines, and forms that have inspired artists throughout history – myself included. Nature serves as a metaphor for human lives and the human psyche.
When I paint in nature, attempting to capture the moment and my perception of it, it feels like meditation. The trees, reaching for the light while their roots draw strength from the soil, symbolize the cycle of life. The water and clouds are ever in motion, from tranquility to the full force of a storm. And the human being – so strong yet so fragile.
I am captivated by the fascination and curiosity that come with the process from the initial idea to the completed painting. This process allows me to draw upon what life has granted me – my personality, knowledge, and wisdom. To echo the words of the Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch, 'Art is the blood of my life.'
This is how I feel, and why I paint.
